Landscape design & construction in Lower North Shore

Harbour-view homes with pools that carry the eye to the water.

The region

The Lower North Shore is our specialty — steep sites, sandstone escarpments, mature gardens, and homes designed around the view. Pools become the visual centrepiece, and we detail them accordingly: infinity edges, glass fencing, tropical planting frames.

Character

Elevated blocks, sandstone bedrock, big excavation projects, and view corridors that drive every design decision. Streetscapes in Mosman and Castlecrag are heavily protected.

Climate & soil

Sheltered harbour-side, less salt exposure than the East but strong afternoon westerlies on ridge lots. Sandstone means minimal soil profile — planting often happens in imported topsoil over raised beds and terraced retaining.

Council & approvals

Mosman Council is one of Sydney's most detailed DA authorities — view-sharing (Tenacity principles), tree preservation, and stormwater dispersal are all scrutinised. We prepare view-loss diagrams, section studies and neighbour consultations as standard.

Questions we hear

Working in Lower North Shore.

How long does a Mosman pool DA take?

Realistically 4–6 months from lodgement to consent for a straightforward view-friendly pool. Complex sites with heritage or significant trees can run longer. We build that timeline into the schedule up front.

Can you build on solid sandstone?

Yes — we regularly excavate pool shells directly into rock. It changes the engineering (rock anchors instead of piles in some cases) but the pool itself lasts a lifetime once it's cut in.
