Landscape design & construction in Bondi

Salt-air gardens, plunge pools and rooftop entertaining.

The region

Bondi asks landscapes to survive the coast and read like a design magazine at the same time. Tight blocks, full ocean UV, and clients who want a plunge pool, a deck and a night-lit garden on 200m² of rear yard.

Character

Small-to-medium blocks, semi-detached and terrace housing, rooftop terraces on newer builds, and constant coastal weather load. Rear-yard views over neighbours' rooflines drive levels design.

Climate & soil

Full coastal exposure. Salt spray, strong UV, sandy free-draining soils. We specify 316 stainless fixings, honed sandstone and granite over softer limestone, and coastal-native palettes (Westringia, Banksia integrifolia, Coastal Rosemary).

Council & approvals

Waverley Council enforces strict landscape-area calculations, deep-soil zones and neighbour privacy provisions. Most rear-yard renovations proceed as Complying Development; plunge pools and any structural retaining above 600mm typically require a DA.

Signature work in Bondi

What we build here, and why.

Plunge pools on tight blocks

Small-format concrete plunge pools (typically 2.5 × 5m) engineered for narrow side-access sites and party-wall proximity.

Rooftop terraces

Structural coordination, wind-tolerant planting, integrated lighting and shade — turning flat roofs into genuine outdoor rooms.

Coastal-native gardens

Full-native palettes engineered for salt, wind and UV, with irrigation designed for Sydney water restrictions.

Questions we hear

Working in Bondi.

Can I put a pool in a Bondi semi?

Usually yes — a plunge pool fits most rear yards once we work through side-access, party-wall proximity and Waverley's landscape-area rules. It's a DA every time, but the outcomes are exceptional.

What survives the salt?

Coastal natives (Banksia, Westringia, Pandorea), 316 stainless everywhere, honed sandstone and granite. We avoid mild steel, softer limestones and merbau within a block of the ocean.
