The region
Balmain is where our family-entertaining work is strongest. Peninsula blocks, water on three sides of the suburb, character homes with real garden depth, and clients briefing full outdoor rooms — pool, cabana, deck, lawn.

Character
Federation and worker's cottages, peninsula geography with water proximity, back-lane access on many blocks, and mature street trees. Rear yards are usually deeper than in the East.
Climate & soil
Temperate inland with harbour moderation. Warmer summers than the ocean coast, cooler nights, clay-loam soils that need drainage engineering. Frost is rare.
Council & approvals
Inner West Council preserves character streetscapes carefully. Deck heights, front-fence treatments and removal of significant trees are the friction points. Waterfront lots along Snails Bay and Iron Cove often need additional foreshore consents.

Family entertaining decks & cabanas
Spotted-gum decking, integrated banquette seating, and lit cabanas that let a Federation home entertain in every season.
Pool renovation on legacy blocks
Rebuilding 80s and 90s pools — new interior, coping, tile, equipment — without demolishing the surrounding garden.
Waterfront foreshore work
Foreshore permits, jetty-adjacent terracing, and view-line planting for waterfront and near-waterfront blocks.

Working in Balmain.
Can we work around mature trees?
Yes — we prefer to. Mature figs and liquidambars are the character of the Inner West. We commission arborist reports early, design footings clear of Tree Protection Zones, and use permeable paving where root protection matters.
Is clay soil a problem for pools?
It affects engineering, not what's possible. Clay-loam soils change pool-shell design and drainage strategy but they don't stop a pool project — we plan for it up front.
